Huawei is Making Its Own Camera Sensor to Replace Sony's

Huawei recently introduced the Nova 14 series and its first foldable laptop at a launch event. The Chinese tech giant has now shifted its focus to the Pura 80 series, which is drawing attention for its camera capabilities. According to recent leaks, Huawei will reportedly use a custom-made camera instead of a Sony one in the Pura 80 Pro.

Huawei Pura 80 Pro may use a custom camera instead of Sony

A recent Digital Chat Station report suggests that Huawei plans to use a custom sensor instead of a Sony sensor on the Pura 80 Pro. If the rumors are true, the smartphone could feature a 1-inch RYYB sensor called the SmartSens SC5A0CS, developed by Huawei itself, with a resolution of 50MP.

In addition, the device will use a 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens and a 50MP periscope telephoto macro camera. The smartphone will also use AI features in its cameras.

All three sensors on the smartphone will use a special RYYB color filter that improves low-light performance by increasing light intake by up to 40 percent. You should take this information with a pinch of salt because the reports are unconfirmed.

Huawei Pura 80 Pro features revealed so far

Huawei Pura 80 Pro will sport a 6.78-inch LTPO OLED display with a 1.5K resolution. Like its predecessor, Huawei will likely support variable refresh rates on the phone, up to 120 Hz.

Huawei has not confirmed the smartphone’s chipset yet. However, its predecessor, the Pura 70 Pro and 70 Ultra, was powered by Huawei’s in-house Kirin 9010 chipset. Therefore, it is highly likely that the new model will also feature a Kirin series chipset.

Huawei has not officially announced the launch date for the Pura 80 series yet. However, past reports suggest that the company will introduce the series in June. Finally, Huawei is said to constantly test the smartphones. The company reportedly prepares them for stock in advance to avoid any potential issues at launch.
