Honor has announced a new software update commitment for the forthcoming Honor 400 smartphone series, and it’s one of the best around.
The Honor 400 and 400 Pro will officially launch tomorrow, 22 May, but the company is keen to precede the event (and harmonise with Google I/O 2025) with some news on its new software approach.
Extended update promise for Honor 400
According to the company, the Honor 400 and 400 Pro will offer six years of Android support, which means OS versions and security updates until at least 2031.
This isn’t just the most extensive software promise in Honor’s history, it instantly places the brand up there right behind Google itself and Samsung. Even then, Honor’s promise only falls short of the very best in the business by a year.
Also noteworthy is Honor’s unusual promise to furnish the 400 series – together with the the Honor Magic 7 Pro and the Honor Magic V3 – with Android 16 by the end of the year.
We don’t see such a firm time frame commitment from manufacturers all that often, so props to Honor.

Honor’s big software push
Indeed, Honor is clearly making a concerted push to improve its software offering. Earlier in the month, the company announced that it was offering developers access to Android 16 Beta 3 through its Honor Magic 7 Pro flagship phone.
This made Honor one of the first to offer access to Google’s upcoming OS revision.
Prior to that, the Honor Magic 6 Pro and the Honor Magic V2 were two of the first phones to receive access to the Android 15 Beta 1 in 2024.
The Honor 400 series is also notable for being the first phones to use Google’s Veo 2 video generation model for its Image to video feature, turning stills into five-second videos using the power of AI.
