The annual launch of Qualcomm’s flagship chips is a major event for the mobile industry. After all, most phone makers rely on this hardware for their premium products. Well, it looks like this year the company will speed things up a bit. Qualcomm has confirmed that it will launch the long-awaited Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 in September.
Computex 2025 is currently underway, where a ton of products are being unveiled. During the tech event, Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon let slip that the Snapdragon Summit is happening on September 23rd to 25th. That’s quite a bit earlier than we’re used to. Last year’s conference, for example, took place in late October. Previous rumors already suggested this announcement schedule for the SoC.
Qualcomm to launch the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 earlier than usual
So, what’s the big deal about an earlier launch? Well, it means smartphone makers can get their hands on this new powerhouse chip sooner. This change could lead to next-gen flagship phones hitting the market earlier too. Remember the Xiaomi 15 and 15 Pro? They were among the first to sport the current Snapdragon 8 Elite and launched in late October. So, don’t be surprised if we see the first phones with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 arriving in late September.
Of course, the big question on everyone’s mind is whether this will also push forward the launch dates for giants like the Samsung Galaxy S26 series and the OnePlus 15. Only time will tell. But what we do know, thanks to previous leaks, is that this new chip is expected to be built on a second-generation 3nm process from TSMC, feature second-generation Oryon CPU cores, and boast an Adreno 840 GPU.
The current Snapdragon 8 Elite is already a top performer, although some have noted that it can get a little toasty under heavy load. Here’s hoping the next generation keeps the power and cools things down a bit.
