Samsung has revealed when One UI 8 could be set to launch, and it’s probably sooner than you think.
With Google set to launch Android 16 earlier than expected in June, the onus is now on third party manufacturers to come up with an Android 16-based UI update in a timely fashion.
It’s not something that many have been too hot at under the current scheme of thing, so we’re not expecting a universally speedy adaptation to Google’s more urgent schedule.
Samsung, however, could be one of the first to jump.
What Samsung has to say about the One UI 8 launch
In Samsung’s recent Android Show: I/O Edition section, company VP and Head of Smartphone Planning Minseok Kang had an interesting comment on Android 16.
“This summer, the all new Android 16 will be coming to Samsung devices,” he said.
This would seem to suggest that Android 16, with Samsung’s own One UI 8 layered on top, will be arriving on Samsung devices relatively shortly after Google brings it to market.
When is One UI 8 likely to be released?
‘Summer’ is a rather vague window that could see Android 16 hitting the Samsung Galaxy S25 (and others) pretty promptly in June, or towards the end of September.
Still, we know that Samsung is at least intent on a relatively swift turnaround, doubtless prompted by its uniquely close software partnership with Google.
That didn’t stop the One UI 7 rollout from being delayed for Samsung’s lesser and older phones, but we’re hopeful that things will be much smoother this time around. After all, early reveals on One UI 8 suggest it’s going to be a relatively minor update.
We have also heard that One UI 8 will be available on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Fold 7 at launch, which could well occur in July.
