The Trump administration’s tariffs are still on hold for 90 days. However, various tech brands remain concerned about the impact on their business when the tariffs resume. Many OEMs like Apple have increased the production of their products to get as much inventory as they can. Now, Samsung is reportedly ramping up the production of its Galaxy S25 phones by a huge amount, fearing the Trump tariffs.
Samsung is rushing to make as many Galaxy S25 phones as it can, fearing tariffs
Apple last month boosted the production of iPhones and iPads amid trade tensions. The Cupertino tech giant raised the production of iPhones by four million and iPads by 1.5 million. In the case of Samsung, it has decided to make 800,000 more units of the Galaxy S25 series devices this month. It appears to be a move likely in response to the US administration’s tariffs.
The company has already told its component suppliers in April that it would make 16.2 million units of Galaxy phones and tablets. Only about 400,000 units of these are tablets. Furthermore, the report claims that Samsung will ramp up production of the Galaxy S25 series to a total of 3.3 million for May.
Samsung is favoring the Galaxy S25 Ultra in the production increase. It now accounts for 1.5 million units in May. As for the vanilla and Plus Galaxy S25 models, they account for 1.3 million and 500,000 units, respectively.
The big question is, why?
The US said it will increase the tariffs on imported goods from South Korea to 25 percent, before kicking off the 90-day pause last month. As of now, the tariff situation remains uncertain. So, Samsung is aiming to fill its warehouses with as many units as it can.
It is aiming to ship more and more Galaxy S25 phones, especially the Ultra model, to the US before the import tariffs increase. Despite increasing production this month, the company plans to scale back in June due to the uncertainty surrounding the tariffs.
