Google's Gemini App Just Got a Lot Better on Your iPad

Google has been on a roll lately, pumping out updates and new features for its AI-powered assistant, Gemini. With Google I/O just around the corner, anticipation is building for some big AI announcements. But in the meantime, iPad users are getting a treat: a specially adapted Gemini app.

For months now, Gemini has been available on iOS devices. Google rolled it out back in November 2024, bringing the power of its AI assistant to Apple fans. On Android, Gemini has become deeply integrated into the OS itself, effectively replacing the classic Google Assistant. This enables a smoother experience, although iPhone users could access most of Gemini’s features through the app. Sadly, using the app on iPads wasn’t quite as seamless.

The Gemini app’s UI is now specifically designed for iPads

The iPhone app, while functional, wasn’t really optimized for the larger screen of an iPad. One of the most noticeable drawbacks was having to use the smaller iOS keyboard. This limitation made interacting with Gemini on an iPad feel a bit clunky. Many iPad owners found it more convenient to access Gemini web through browsers.

Fortunately, the wait is finally over. After months of anticipation, Google is now officially launching a Gemini app specifically designed for iPads. This app is built to take full advantage of the iPad’s screen real estate, whether you’re holding it in portrait or landscape orientation. The UI seems to draw inspiration from the web version of Gemini for tablets.

Overall, this new design makes much better use of the iPad’s larger form factor. Reading through your chats with Gemini will now be more comfortable, and using features like Gemini Live should also feel more natural. The dedicated Gemini app for iPads is available right now for download from Apple’s App Store. So, if you’re an iPad user who’s been eager to experience Gemini in a more optimized way, head over to the App Store and grab it.

In related news, the Gemini app just got lockscreen widgets on iOS devices. Plus, the AI-powered chatbot will gain some advanced memory and learning capabilities about you
