Epic Games v. Apple legal battle
, where judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers ruled that Apple can no longer collect commissions on purchases made outside of apps or restrict how app developers present different payment options within their apps.
“We regularly make improvements to our apps to help ensure we are providing customers the most convenient experience possible,” Amazon said in a statement to The Verge. “By selecting ‘Get Book’ within the Kindle for iOS app, customers can now complete their purchase through their mobile web browser.”

Buying Kindle books is way easier on iOS now
You can thank Fortnite for these changes
Before the “Buy Book” button was added to the Kindle app on iOS, buying books was much more complicated due to Apple’s App Store guidelines and commissions. Previously, there was no option to purchase a book or even a link to click on for making a purchase, because of Apple’s strict guidelines, which have now been amended in the US.
Now, when users find a book they want to read on the Kindle app, all they need to do is tap the Get Book button, and they’ll be redirected to an external web page on Amazon’s store listing where they can purchase it, with the option to make a 1-Click purchase. Although the Kindle app still doesn’t technically allow users to purchase a book directly within the app, this represents a significant improvement over what was previously available.
Apple is certainly not happy with the changes it has had to implement for the App Store in the US, and has promptly filed an appeal against the court’s decision.
Spotify was the
first company to update its app
after Apple was compelled to change its App Store policies. The Spotify app now enables viewers to see different promotions for Spotify Premium, with prices and links to purchase its various plans now available in the app. Fortnite by Epic Games, the mobile app that initiated all this, will also be making its return to the App Store soon.
Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney posted on X, celebrating the news about Kindle, saying “You can now buy Kindle books in the Kindle app! The digital world is finally healing from Apple’s self-inflicted wounds.”
Apple is certainly not happy with the changes it has had to implement for the App Store in the US, and has promptly filed an appeal against the court’s decision. Since the judge who handed down the ruling characterized Apple’s App Store operations as “anti-competitive,” the Cupertino-based company faces a significant challenge. Nevertheless, its adjustments to the App Store must remain in place for now. Thanks, Fortnite.
