Samsung is one of the few major smartphone manufacturers that consistently offers a clamshell and a book-style foldable for consumers every year. Needless to say, the clamshell model tends to be a little laidback, and is best suited for more casual smartphone users, as opposed to the Z Fold’s power user appeal.
However, Samsung isn’t doing a great job in helping the Z Fold stand out as the more powerful choice, and this new leak from a Danish certification board lets us know about the battery capacities for the upcoming smartphone. The Z Flip 7 will get an upgrade that brings it neck-to-neck with the much bigger device.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 Gets a Battery Boost, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 Stays the Same

In most countries, smartphones have to pass through a certification board before they’re allowed to be sold in that country. The TENAA certification board in China is arguably the most notorious for providing us with info about upcoming devices way before they’re intended for launch. However, this time around, we’re getting a leak from UL Demko (via TheTechOutlook), a certification platform in Denmark.
Galaxy Z Flip 7 | Galaxy Z Fold 7 | |
Battery #1 | 1,189mAh | 2,126mAh |
Battery #2 | 2,985mAh | 2,146mAh |
Total Battery Capacity | 4,174mAh | 4,272mAh |
Typical Battery Capacity | 4,300mAh | 4,400mAh |
Samsung’s seventh generation of foldables is the subject for today, with the certification board giving us a glimpse into the battery sizes for both the Z Flip 7 and the Z Fold 7. However, if you were expecting to see a boost in capacity, then there’s some good news and there’s some bad news.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 will be getting a battery boost, moving up from 4,000mAh to a rumored 4,300mAh. That’s the good news. It’s a good enough jump, though we’d have loved a little more. However, the bad news is that the Z Fold 7 isn’t going to see any change. That means it will stick to last year’s 4,400mAh capacity, which is quite frustrating considering a device as slim as the Oppo Find N5 has a 5,600mAh cell.
Samsung’s Foldables Have Different Customer Bases, But This Doesn’t Help
The kind of person buying a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is likely not the same kind of person buying a Z Fold. However, considering that the Galaxy Z Flip is the cheaper device (by a lot), the less compromises that you have to make when settling for it, the more likely some folks will defect to its side.

Think about it: there are very few things that actually differentiate the Galaxy Z Flip from the Z Fold at this point. Here are some of the ways the Z Flip is actually equal or better:
- Has the same flagship processor
- Costs about $800 less
- Could have a virtually identical battery this year (that will likely last longer since its powering a much smaller display)
- Has the same 25W charging speed.
The bigger display and telephoto camera can’t be the only things that set it apart with that much of a price gap. It’s hard to understand why Samsung chose to keep the Z Fold battery stagnant, but then, it only makes my campaign for people to consider more Chinese foldables easier. Oh, and these super expensive phones are still sticking to 25W fast charging in 2025, so there’s that too.
