Authorities have released the name of the man who died after his vehicle collided with a Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority train.
According to police, on Saturday, at just after 11:15 a.m., the Cohasset Police Department was dispatched to the Beechwood Street railroad crossing following reports of a collision involving a train and a motor vehicle.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered a 78-year-old man who had sustained traumatic injuries. Unfortunately, despite the prompt response of paramedics from the Cohasset Fire Department, the individual was pronounced deceased at the scene.
According to the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office, the deceased is John F. Canney of Cohasset.
The vehicle involved was a 2015 GMC pick-up truck, which was declared a total loss due to the impact of the collision.
The incident is still under investigation by the MBTA Transit Police, Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office, and the Cohasset Police Department.
