$80-k smartphone deal turns into legal battle

May 31, 2025

MONTEGO BAY, St James — A woman has found herself at the centre of a legal storm after being accused of scamming another out of more than $80,000 in a social media phone sale scheme.

The accused, Camara Logan, appeared before the St James Parish Court on Wednesday to answer to charges of conspiracy to defraud and receiving stolen property, both of which she has denied.

Court documents reveal that the case stems from an incident on November 5, 2024.

According to the prosecution, the complainant came across an Instagram post advertising a Samsung Galaxy S3 Ultra smartphone for sale at a seemingly reasonable price of $81,850. Tempted by the offer, the woman allegedly transferred the full sum to a bank account in Logan’s name, expecting prompt delivery of the device.

However, the phone never arrived. The complainant waited, but no package showed up, and repeated attempts to secure a refund reportedly went unanswered.

Suspecting foul play, the woman contacted the police, sparking an investigation that led to Logan’s arrest and charge.

After the allegations were presented, Logan entered a plea of not guilty before parish judge Natiesha Fairclough-Hylton.

In light of her plea, the court has scheduled a case management hearing for June 25. Logan’s bail has been extended pending that hearing.
