To mark two decades since the release of the first iPhone, Apple has planned to revolutionize smartphone design once more, with a futuristic, daring look. According to tech insider Mark Gurman, the technology giant is working on a “mostly glass, curved iPhone” that may come by 2027, just in time for the iPhone’s 20th birthday, as per a report.

Apple’s Next Big Leap

Gurman described that the new device would be “without any cutouts in the display”, like a notch at the top or a small circle for a front-facing camera, reported Daily Mail.

He predicted that the latest iPhone with the unique design would be launched in a couple of years to mark 20 years since the very first iPhone went on sale on June 29, 2007, as per the report.

Gurman wrote in his newsletter, “Later in the year, a mostly glass, curved iPhone without any cutouts in the display is due to hit,” quoted Daily Mail. He also mentioned, “That will mark the 10-year anniversary of the iPhone X, which kicked off the transition to all-screen, glass-focused iPhone designs,” as quoted in the report.

At present, the back of smartphones is not utilized much, it just has a few components such as cameras and fingerprint readers, which occupy minimal space, according to Daily Mail. So, fitting the back of an iPhone with a glass display could potentially double the display size, without changing the shape or size of the device, reported Daily Mail.

Apple’s Patent Hints at a “Slab of Glass” Future

It is called a “single slab of glass”, the patent shows a device with displays on both its front and back, as well as touchscreen buttons on its curved edges, reported Daily Mail.
