What to Expect From DC Video Games in 2023 – GameRant

DC’s video game offerings have been a little lacking in recent years, but DC’s 2023 slate could turn things around and give fans a hopeful future.

The Batman: Arkham series of games revolutionized the superhero video game market. Never before had a superhero offered such innovative combat, brilliant world-building, and engrossing atmosphere, all while feeling as though it’d been ripped straight from the pages of a comic. But it’s been a long time since the Arkham series wrapped up, and DC seems a little lost without it. In 2022, DC saw just one game release, and Gotham Knights wasn’t quite the smash hit some expected it to be. Thankfully though, things can only get better, and 2023 could be DC’s year.

GAMERANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

DC currently has two games on the 2023 release slate, both of which are some of the most anticipated games of the year. And though competition is stiff, 2023 is finally a chance for DC to prove that the Arkham series wasn’t just a fluke and that DC is still capable of producing some of the best superhero games in the industry.

Everything Revealed About Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League So Far

By far the most anticipated DC release of the year, and of the last few years, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is finally set to hit store shelves on May 26, 2023. After years of speculation, Rocksteady Studios finally announced its next project in August 2020. While Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is technically set in Rocksteady’s “Arkhamverse,” its gameplay, story, and tone seem like a bit of a departure from the more brooding Arkham series.

Instead of the Caped Crusader and his Bat-Family, players will take control of four members of the Suicide Squad, including King Shark, Harley Quinn, Deadshot, and Captain Boomerang. Together, the unlikely team will need to save the world from its best defenders, the Justice League, who have seemingly been brainwashed by Brainiac. While the subject matter is pretty dark, all of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League‘s trailers have kept things fairly lighthearted, with plenty of tongue-in-cheek jokes and self-referential humor.

Despite coming out in just a few months, not much actual gameplay has been seen from Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, with most trailers focusing on showing fans cinematics that flesh out the universe and the game’s general plot. That being said, a few clips of gameplay have been shown, briefly showcasing each character’s different combat and traversal mechanics. Solo players will be able to swap between each of these characters on the fly, while those wanting to work together in 4-player co-op will need to lock in their character before jumping into the game. Fans are sure to see a lot more from Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League in the coming months, with DC undoubtedly wanting to stir up a big marketing push just before its release.

Everything Revealed About The Wolf Among Us 2 So Far

wolf among us 2 story

All the way back in July 2017, The Wolf Among Us 2 was officially announced by Telltale Games. Originally set for a 2018 release, The Wolf Among Us 2 was unceremoniously canceled when the majority of Telltale was closed down back in September 2018. Thankfully, Telltale was resurrected in 2019, and The Wolf Among Us 2 was re-announced at that year’s Game Awards.

Rather than continue its work from 2017, Telltale decided to start from scratch, creating a new story for its iconic main characters Bigby Wolf and Snow White. The sequel is set to take place around six months after the events of the first game, still acting as a prequel to the DC comic series Fables written by Bill Willingham. Though The Wolf Among Us 2 will apparently use an episodic layout, all episodes are being worked on simultaneously at Telltale, which will likely lead to smoother release schedule. The Wolf Among Us 2 is set to release at some point in 2023.

During the 2021 Game Awards, a brand-new Wonder Woman game was announced. Being developed by the same studio behind the beloved Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War, Monolith Productions, this untitled Wonder Woman game seems to be in good hands. Currently, the only details about this game are that it’ll be a single-player, open-world action adventure game that sees Diana try to unite her Amazon people and humanity. Some leaks have suggested that the game could use a form of Monolith’s trademark Nemesis system. It seems pretty likely that DC fans will get to see more of Wonder Woman in 2023.
