With 2020’s Galaxy Note 20 series being a bit hit-and-miss and rumors that Samsung is thinking of moth-balling the Note series for 2021 and adding S Pen support to the upcoming Galaxy S21/S30 Ultra, it’s not unreasonable to think that it will double down on the Galaxy Z Fold range. This is given more weight as we learn that Samsung is working on an under-display cameras which could debut on the Galaxy Z Fold 3.
The report comes from ETNews, a Korean news outlet that has a good reputation when it comes to digging up facts about upcoming devices.
This means that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 could offer what we used to expect from the Note series; a platform for debuting state-of-the-art technologies instead of just tweaking the Galaxy S formula as Samsung has done in recent times. But, with both ZTE and Xiaomi putting their own version of the tech into production for use with phones launching next year, Samsung may well launch the Galaxy Z Fold 3 with an under-display camera in tandem with a unique display from Samsung’s System LSI division, along with an image correction algorithm to improve the camera sensors output.
If the report is accurate, it would mean that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 would not suffer the indignity of a notch like the first generation or the punch-hole design as seen on the Galaxy Z Fold 3. Which is not a bad thing.
