A “love” reaction on Facebook will count as a vote for Army SPC Maura Spence, 20, of Kemah in a virtual talent contest that ends today for the Fort Carson Commanders Cup in Colorado.
Spence sings “O Mio Babbino Caro” from Puccini’s 1918 comic opera “Gianni Schicchi” in the competition..
“Maura went to Seven Lakes High School in Katy her junior year and home-schooled last year,” said her mother, Cidnie Carroll, of Kemah.
Spence’s stepfather is Mark Carroll.
After graduation, Spence enlisted in the U.S. Army, arriving at Fort Carson in September.
“Following deployment, I plan to study philosophy with a concentration in ethics,” she said.
