OSU softball week in review: Maxwell’s perfect game highlights Cowgirls’ opening weekend –

“It was really awesome to watch Kelly’s first outing as a collegiate pitcher, throwing a perfect game,” OSU coach Kenny Gajewski said. “It tells us that our future is very bright with Kelly.”

Eberle sets personal record

In more than 100 appearances at Virginia Tech, Carrie Eberle had twice struck out 10 batters in a game.

On Sunday, she struck out 11 in her second game with OSU. The graduate transfer pitched the Cowgirls to a 6-2 win over Florida A&M.

Eberle began the season with a strong outing, though the Cowgirls fell 1-0 to LSU in the opener.

Bats shine, too

Alysen Febrey had one big swing in her first weekend as a Cowgirl. The Georgia graduate transfer hit a grand slam in the 6-2 win on Saturday.  

Veteran third baseman Sydney Pennington hit a pair of homers over the weekend, while Kiley Naomi and Michaela Richbourg each hit one.

Sophomore Chyenne Factor had six hits in 12 at-bats with a double and three runs batted in.

The Cowgirls head to Florida for the St. Pete/Clearwater Elite Invitational, which will include begins Thursday and includes games against Virginia Tech, Missouri and Alabama, plus an exhibition game against Team USA at 9 a.m. Sunday.
