Method has announced a livestreaming partnership with Chinese platform DouYu Database-Link-e1521645463907 for the current World of Warcraft Database-Link-e1521645463907 Race to World First: The Eternal Palace streaming event.

The partnership brings content on both sides of the equation: DouYu will stream Method’s broadcast to Chinese viewers, as its players attempt to be the first in the world to complete the new Eternal Palace raid. Additionally, Method is licensed to re-stream the raid attempts by DouYu-partnered Chinese guilds Alpha, Tian Hong, and Skyline.

According to a Method representative, the partnership spans the entirety of the Race to World First: The Eternal Palace event, and marks the team’s first exploration of the Chinese streaming scene. The organization hopes to build upon the experience to potentially explore a long-term partnership with a Chinese livestreaming platform, and be able to again re-stream content from Chinese creators for future Race to World First events.

Method was originally founded in 2005 as a World of Warcraft guild before expanding into other games such as Fortnite Database-Link-e1521645463907 and Rocket League Database-Link-e1521645463907. The team helped popularize the concept of World of Warcraft‘s raid races, in which competing guilds attempt to be the first to complete a newly-added raid, by broadcasting its attempts starting late last year. Viewership quickly swelled, with more than 260K Twitch viewers watching the finale of Method’s September 2018 raid victory.

Red Bull Database-Link-e1521645463907 had been a key partner for Method’s first two Race to World First streams, but the companies split for The Eternal Palace after a falling out. Method has continued its stream in partnership with TakeTV, while Red Bull has launched its own competing stream in partnership with rival guilds Limit Database-Link-e1521645463907 and Pieces.

Earlier this week, DouYu raised $775M USD in its U.S. initial public offering on the New York Stock Exchange (Nasdaq), with Tencent Holdings Database-Link-e1521645463907 remaining the platform’s largest shareholder. Method is the latest example of a team partnering with a Chinese streaming platform to reach esports fans in the country, following DouYu’s partnerships with Gen.G Esports Database-Link-e1521645463907 and SKT T1 Database-Link-e1521645463907, as well as Team Liquid Database-Link-e1521645463907 and Team Griffin’s Database-Link-e1521645463907 deals with rival platform HUYA Database-Link-e1521645463907.
