Elon Musk and his SpaceX company are determined to make it to Mars, and so too is his partner, Grimes. Grimes, the Canadian singer whose real name is Claire Boucher, recently said on Instagram she is “ready to die with the red dirt of Mars beneath my feet”. Similarly, Mr Musk, who fathered the child of Grimes’ first born called X Æ A-Xii, has said he hopes to get SpaceX to Mars “well before 2030”.

As a result, the couple are the bookmakers’ favourite to become the first couple to wed in space.

Paddy Power has given the couple a 50/1 chance of getting married in space.

While 50/1 might seem a little high, Leicester City were valued at 500/1 to win the Premier League title in 2016 – but the Foxes pulled it off.

Mr Musk and Grimes have also been given a better chance of being the first couple to have a child on Mars than Leicester were to win the league, according to Power Power.

The popular Irish bookmaker believes the eccentric billionaire and his pop sensation partner have a 250/1 chance of becoming the first couple to produce a Martian.

A Paddy Power spokesman said: “With Elon Musk saying he wants to get people to Mars by 2026, it sounds like someone’s first trip out after lockdown is going to be pretty special.

“So, we really have to consider the possibility that Grimes might end up giving birth to a Martian.

“She’s going to serious lengths to make sure a child named X Æ A-ii is not the weirdest one in the family.”

“The really hard threshold is making Mars Base Alpha self-sustaining.”

Mars Base Alpha is the code name for the first human base on the Red Planet.

For humans to settle there, there will need to be a constant supply of food, energy and water.

SpaceX has said of the Starship: “This capability will enable a fully reusable transportation system designed to carry both crew and cargo on long-duration, interplanetary flights and help humanity return to the Moon, and travel to Mars and beyond.”
