Today is Taste of Chico.

One of Chico’s favorite food events is today with the downtown Taste of Chico.

Organized by the Downtown Chico Business Association, it is a celebration of great local food, fine art and entertainment in the city’s core.

From noon to 4 p.m. find dozens of vendors, booths and places to stop in downtown. Expect to find restaurant tastes, wine and beer sips, along with alternative beverages, all happy to see you.

There also will be cider makers, along with sake samples. I don’t believe this area has any sake producers, but I could be wrong.

Visitors will be able to buy wristbands for sampling online at the DCBA site or at the event.

Also realize in addition to making tummies happy, the event closes down a variety of downtown streets that are closed, generally from 6:30 a.m. to about 7 p.m.

LaMalfa aid

We’re sure that Chico insurance agent Brett Sanders has kept his eye on national legislation. As an insurance agent in Chico, he’s seen plenty of impact from Washington legislation as well as Sacramento.

But Sanders will be a little more interested in the Washington side of things after becoming the Butte County representative for Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale). He steps into the shoes vacated by Laura Page, who was named disaster recovery manager for Paradise.

Sanders has been working for Farmers Insurance, with Brad Jacobson’s office in Chico.

Sanders has had a busy first few days, if you check his Facebook page. There are press releases regarding the recent Butte County fire evacuations, issues at the forefront in Washington, and notices from the Butte County Sheriff’s Office.

His office, with others on LaMalfa’s staff, is at 120 Independence Circle, with a phone of 343-1000.

Getting a behind-the-scenes glimpse of area businesses is the beauty of events such as the Sierra Oro Food Trail and Chico Chamber’s Business Crawl.
