A dead baby was found in the trash at a business in Perris on Friday, Jan. 22, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said.

Deputies responded to the 1700 block of Goetz Road at 1 p.m. and were directed to the infant. A news release did not identify the business, but CR&R Environmental Services is the only business in that block. No one answered the phone there Saturday.

No other details were reported.

The Sheriff’s Department asks anyone who might know who left the baby to contact Investigator Lacy Stutler at 951-210-1000 or PerrisStation@riversidesheriff.org.

The Safely Surrendered Baby Law in California allows a parent or guardian to turn over a baby 3 days old or younger to a hospital emergency room or other designated facility such as a fire station, no questions asked.
