CHICO — The Chico Police Department released the identity of a man who died in a shooting Sunday afternoon on West Ninth Street and Cedar Street, as well as a man they suspect was involved in the case who was arrested.

Scott Thomson, 28, suffered a gunshot wound to his upper body and was pronounced dead after being transported to Enloe Medical Center.

Shortly after the shooting, which was reported to Chico Police Dispatch at 12:31 p.m. Sunday, officers located and detained a man, who police identified Monday as Kai Perrelli, 23. According to police, witnesses described a man running away from the scene still carrying a firearm.

The Chico Police Detective Bureau investigated the case as a homicide and allege that Perrelli was the man running from the scene. Perrelli was arrested on suspicion of homicide and transported to the Butte County Jail.

Police said Sunday that shooting appeared to be an isolated case and there was no threat to public safety.

The investigation remains active. The Chico Police Detective Bureau is asking anyone who may have information or witnessed the shooting to call the department at 897-4911.
