A brush fire burned about 20 acres east of Diamond Valley Lake near Hemet on Thursday afternoon, July 11, before the progress of the flames was stopped.

Just after 2 p.m., Cal Fire/Riverside County firefighters responded to the area of Girard Street and Quiet Hills Drive, which is east of State Street. The initial report said 5 acres had burned and that flames were spreading at a moderate rate. By 3:15 p.m., the flames were no longer considered a threat, Cal Fire said.

No injuries were reported in the Gibbel fire, whose cause was under investigation.

The Hemet and Soboba fire departments also responded to the fire.
