Wichita DMV and tax offices open after internet outage

The Wichita driver’s license and tax offices will be open on Thursday after an internet outage drove customers to Andover and Derby locations.

“The problem that was causing the internet failure at the Twin Lakes driver’s license and tax offices has been fixed,” the Kansas Department of Revenue said in a tweet. “Both offices will be open tomorrow for normal operations.”

The Department of Motor Vehicles and tax offices were closed at the Twin Lakes location on Tuesday and Wednesday after an internet outage originating with the provider, AT&T, Department of Revenue pokeswoman Rachel Whitten previously told The Eagle. Employees were not able to process customers.

Workers at Wichita’s only driver’s licensing office, near 21st and Amidon, were moved to the Andover and Derby locations to help handle increased traffic, Whitten said. Longer waits were expected at the DMV for people wanting to get or renew a license.
