Or at least there’s about to be a New Vine. Here is the good word, from none other than original Vine’s original dad, Dom Hofmann:
Details about this new Vine successor, called byte with an assertively casual b, are scarce, but hopefully there’s not much to know. Vine’s brilliance—short looping videos that lend themselves to playful tomfoolery and significantly less so to fake news, harassment, or the dreaded ‘discourse’—was in its simplicity. Any complication of that purity by features for features’ sake would only run the risk of destroying the resurrected beauty of a service that was already verifiably too good for this cruel world.
Can byte survive where Vine failed? We can only hope. But even if its existence is fleeting, it’s more than welcome for as long as we can keep it around.
