Traffic police act tough, seize 11 school vans, 15 autos for violating safety norms

CONTINUING a campaign against violation of safety norms in operation of school vehicles, Traffic Police have seized 11 school vans and 15 school auto-rickshaws near several schools on Wednesday. A special campaign has been started under direction of Superintendent of Police Amit Singh (IPS) in compliance to the orders of the Supreme Court and implementing guidelines of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) towards safety of children in school vehicles.
Separate traffic police team under supervision of Additional SP (Traffic), Sanjeev Uikay led by DSP (Traffic), Manoj Khatri, DSP (Traffic), Sudesh Singh and DSP (Traffic), Pankaj Parmar comprised Subedar Mohan Singh, Rohit Tiwari and traffic staff conducted checking of several school buses, vans and auto-rickshaws near different schools in the city. During checking of school buses, traffic police teams conducted checking of GPS, CCTV camera, speed governor, first-aid kit, fire extinguisher and documents.
Details of drivers and conductors were also collected for verification. Drivers and conductors were strictly directed to follow guidelines of Supreme Court and CBSE to ensure speed limit within 40 kilometres per hour and other safety norms.
Separate teams seized 11 vans and 15 auto-rickshaws and issued challans to vehicles owners and driver for violation of safety norms and warned them to take necessary precautions for safety of children.
Additional SP (Traffic), Dr Sanjeev Uikay informed that special vehicle checking campaign will be continued in days to come and warned owners of school vehicles and commercial vehicles to follow traffic safety guidelines or be prepared to face stern action.
