Earlier this week Porshe announced it would be renaming the Mission E to the Taycan.
Taycan is the company’s first all-electric car and has been in the works since 2015.
The Mission E concept car was first revealed since 2015 and the design of the new car is expected to remain similar to that vehicle.
This trailer is the first insight into the new car that will enter production.
In the video, the car manufacturer explains that the new car will have one key thing that all other EVs don’t have.
It said in the trailer description: “All Porsche models have something in common: They have a soul.
“A certain feeling you get as a driver as soon as you get behind the wheel.
“Soon, the Porsche Taycan is coming.
“And although his heart is powered by a different force – electricity – the soul, once again, is the same.”
During the video the voiceover adds more colour to this point, discussing how the ‘soul’ of the car affects the experience the driver has.
“There’s no debate about its existence. After just one day behind the wheel, it’s the most valuable part of the car.
“The irreplaceable component. The thing you love more and more with every passing mile.
“The thing you instantly miss with any other car. The soul.”
While this is an abstract concept to market a car on it seems to be commenting on a deeper issue with electric cars.
Porsche cars are associated with being ‘driver’s car’ and known for how they perform on the road.
Electric cars have been found to not have the same dynamism or handling prowess as a petrol or diesel powered car.
Porsche is directly saying that the Taycan will perform like a regular Porsche and still feel like a Porsche.
It is expected to have around 250 miles of range and accelerate from 0-60mph in 3.5 seconds.
The manufacturer is also saying its 800-volt system should allow a charge rate of up to 350kW which could charge the car up to 80 per cent in only 15 minutes.
Prices for the car are expected to start around $75,000 and there are expected to be three different variants of the vehicle.
