Mobile, AL (WKRG) – UPDATE: The Mobile County Commission has approved the purchase of land for a soccer complex near I-65 and I-10. Also approved today was a contract with Neel-Schaffer, Inc for engineering services for the complex.
The purchase price of the land was capped at $1.35 million.
It’s a big day for soccer fans in Mobile. Members of the Mobile County Commission are set to vote this morning to proceed with a long-planned soccer complex.
It’s a project that has been debated among commission members for the last several years. With this proposal, the county intends on building it piecemeal rather than all at once. The vote today would cover the construction of four fields–two tournament fields and two practice fields. The site plans show the overall project would create 10 fields of play.
According to a news release:
Mobile County will partner with Mobile United Futbol Club to manage and operate the facility. Phase I construction is expected to begin at the end of 2018.
