Gamico: an introduction
Gamico is a platform that enables gamers around the world to earn money playing their favourite games. On 14th December, we will launch our platform as a Discord chat bot, where gamers will be able to set up 1v1 matches for up to $500 in games such as FIFA 19, PUBG Mobile, Fornite, and NBA 2K19. With a few simple commands, user will be able to deposit, withdraw, and instantly find an opponent who’s also looking to play the same game, at the same stake within 5 minutes, all on Discord.

How did you get the idea of Gamico?
The idea of Gamico could be considered as an evolution of the ideologies in my previous start ups: Wow Sports and Oction. Gamico was born from the idea that if you’re great at something, you should be rewarded for it. However the Esports market fails to cater to the average player with a lack of amateur tournaments that pays well and an unclear path to a professional career. That’s why we aim to become the lifelong strategic partners of gamers across the world where they not only can earn for a living but also take their gaming careers to the next level!

Through competing, gamers can acquire rankings, qualify for offline tournaments, be scouted by Esports teams and attract big name sponsors.

How difficult was the start and what challenges have you had to overcome?
Launching has been our greatest difficulty. Initially our idea was a complex esports tournament platform based on the Blockchain which also included its own cryptocurrency. We spent a lot of time delaying our launch and trying to build a perfect product… I have seen many other startups fall into this trap.

We decided to strip ourselves down to a more lean state: to provide value a quickly as possible and build up from a very rough MVP.

Who is your target audience?
People who love to play games. From very serious gamers who want to go pro… or those who are already pro. We also want to appeal to casual gamers who might want to see their time gaming better invested. We are looking forward to seeing where this can expand to and how we can activate gamers of all types.

What is the USP of your startup?
Making money doing the things that you love (mic drop). We are also building a matchmaking discord bot… perhaps the first of this type. Our discord community is also our USP… it is HUGE.

This allows us to interact with our community directly and test things right away.

Can you describe a typical workday for you?
I like to rise early in the morning at 7am, two to three times a week, to play Tennis. I love tennis and I believe it’s vital to stay active even when you’re busy. I see many busy startup founders neglecting physical exercise and nutrition… I know it may be tuff, but staying active and eating relatively healthy is a vital part of my day. To start my workday I do a ‘daily kickoff session’ where I prioritize all of my daily deliverables, emails, and planning of future tasks.

That way I get on top of my day early and ensure I can stay on top of it. Inbox and ToDoist are an integral part of my daily kickoff.

Where do you see yourself and your startup Gamico in five years?
I see us fulfilling our core goal of empowering people to do what they love and make a living from it. On a bigger scale it would coincide with the success of the esports industry as a whole. We hope to enable gamers who are good at their games to be able to truly make a living. Down the road (perhaps soon) we see our company helping gamers meet new people, get recruited to teams, find sponsors more easily (or get found more easily by sponsors), and make it easier for organizers to host esports tournaments.

We hope to do this for players around the world… we would like to see our company as an industry driver that helps games as well as cities grow within the esports industry.

What 3 tips would you give other Start-up founders on the way?
1. Talk to your users: building a community is what can get your company off the ground. People are more forgiving to a company they know personally. We have been blown away by the love our community has shown us.
2. Get your product out there: “Lots of people in the startup world aren’t motivated by money… they are motivated by seeing what they build make an impact.” Getting your product to users and provide value as fast as possible increases team morale and motivation… you get more feedback and you get it sooner rather than later. Embracing the fear of launching → many entrepreneurs are afraid to launch… they afraid of having their ‘baby’ judged by the world. You MUST embrace that fear.
3. No bullshit: what is the shortest pathway to creating value for users AND employees. We don’t like to sugar coat things internally and we don’t like to accept the status quo a lot of times. We also focus more on the people and what they truly want to do rather than what their resume says about them. We also don’t care much about their university or past companies. Actions speak louder than words… show us what you’re made of.
