Today, Epic Games announced Fortnite for Nintendo Switch. The reveal didn’t come as a surprise because the game leaked many weeks ago. Numerous outlets reported the exact release date a while back. However, what was surprising is that Fortnite will support cross-play between Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, Mac, and mobile devices. As expected, Sony continues to block the feature on its platform due to the company’s significant sales advantage.
After the Fortnite for Nintendo Switch announcement, Nick Chester, Public Relations Manager at Epic Games, confirmed that the game would support cross-play between the various gaming systems. It seems like the future of gaming definitely involves cross-play given its prevalence.
Hopefully Sony will reconsider its stance down the line. Gaming is so popular because it’s an inclusive experience. Using your market position to block a feature doesn’t seem right.
Fortnite is a free-to-play third-person shooter which features building mechanics and even a PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds-like mode. The title has garnered incredible popularity over the past few months due to the developer’s continued support and addictive nature.
