EAST BRIDGEWATER — A town resident was arrested and arraigned last week on charges of child pornography possession and distribution.

Daniel O’Connor Jr., 56, was in possession of, and in some cases shared, videos depicting sexual acts involving children believed to be between ages 4 to 14, according to the police report.

O’Connor was arrested following an investigation that began after Gerald Perkins Jr., turned himself in to the Lockport, New York, police on Dec. 1, 2017, at which time Perkins stated he was a child pornography trader, according to the East Bridgewater police report.

Perkins obtained child pornography from the KIK app. Through inspection of Perkins account, an IP address for a user he communicated with on Nov. 29, 2017, led the East Bridgewater Police Department to begin surveillance on O’Connor, and later obtain a federal warrant that was executed on June 7, 2018.

Through the KIK app, the username linked to O’Connor indicated a preferences for ages 7 to 11. Through the app, he also shared a video on Dec. 17, 2017 involving a child involved in a sexual act, and on Dec. 18, 2017, he shared another video also of a child involved a sexual act, according to the East Bridgewater police report.

Upon his arrest, O’connor’s phone was searched and yielded a video that contained a child between 4 and 8 years old in a sexual situation, accessed on May 14, 2018, as well as an image of a child between 5 and 8 years old naked, accessed on May 29, 2018, according to the report.

O’Connor was arraigned on June 8 and bail was set at $25,000. O’Connor posted bail and is expected to return for a court on a later date, according to court documents.

Presently, O’Connor cannot have contact with minors and must stay 100 yards from all minors, in addition to electronic monitoring.

Child pornography possession carries a penalty of no more than five years at a state prison and/or a fine ranging from $1000 to $10,000. Upon conviction, the offender must register as a sex offender.
