Today, Digital Foundry released an analysis of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4‘s “Blackout” battle royale beta. According to the outlet, the game targets native 4K resolution at 60 FPS through dynamic scaling on Xbox One X. Since it’s a beta, the resolution at any given time is lower, so hopefully there will be significant improvements by the time the game ships.
The PlayStation 4 Pro version is also targeting native 4K resolution, but the outlet suspected that the game was using temporal reconstruction because the image looked softer and possibly showed evidence of the technique. Hopefully an analysis of the final build will provide concrete answers.
It’s great to see that the developer is pushing the visuals further on Xbox One X because it offers the cleanest image on consoles. Hopefully they’ll be able to make the performance better as well.
