Two Beaumont Police officers were injured while trying to arrest a man who they believed was intoxicated on PCP, BPD said.
Joseph Raymond Murphy, 40, allegedly entered a Shop N Save store on South 4th Street around 12 p.m. Thursday and started shattering bottles. “He then went outside, walked through traffic, removed his clothes and used his hand to shatter the windshield of a vehicle,” BPD Officer Haley Morrow said.
When police tried to arrest him, he charged an officer and hit him multiple times, “transferring a large amount of blood onto the Officer’s face and neck.”
Murphy spat on the four officers trying to detain him before he was arrested, Morrow said. “Two of the Officers sustained minor injuries.”
He was taken to a hospital and treated for his injury and intoxication before he was booked into Jefferson County Jail, BPD said. He was charged with assault on a public servant, harassment of a public servant and resisting transport.
